Paint Your Cabinets
One thing you can do is to paint your cabinets. Not only can that change the look of your cabinets, but it can also do a lot of things for your kitchen. For example, if your kitchen is dark, then you can lighten it up some by painting your cabinets in a light color. It may not enlarge your kitchen or add in actual light, but the light color will make it seem lighter and maybe even a little bigger. It isn't going to be hard for you to paint your cabinets. You will need to take the doors off and take off the hinges if they are on the outside. You will also need to clean off the cabinets and use some sandpaper to smooth out any rough spots. Then you can start painting your cabinets. Just make sure that you have used a good cleaner and cleaned them up very well.
Under Cabinet Lighting
If you have ever complained about not being able to see when you are working at the counter because you are blocking the light, then you may want to think about installing some under cabinet lighting. There are several easy ways that you can do that. One is that you can get an LED light rope. These ropes have a series of LED bulbs in them. Then you can use clips of some kind to install that rope under the cabinets. You may want to put two under there if you are worried about how light the one rope would be. You will just need to make sure that you have an outlet nearby and that the power switch is easy for you to reach. Another option is that you can have an electrician come in and ask them to install lights under your cabinets and hardwire them into your house's electrical system. Then all you have to do is flip a switch.
If you are going to start updating your kitchen and you are on a tight budget, there are some easy things you can do. Of course, if your budget is larger, then you can always hire someone to install all new cabinets in your kitchen.
